This chapter presents the author’s account of his activities in Mississippi in February 1962, as he helped prepare witnesses in the government’s case for injunctive relief against Theron Lynd, the man responsible for preserving Forrest County’s virtually all-white electorate. The author also explains why he became interested in the grueling work of the Civil Rights Division early in his legal career.
