This chapter examines the newslore of Hurricane Katrina. It explains that, like the September 11 terrorist attack, there was little focus on the victims. Most of the jokes were about public officials who were perceived to have so thoroughly botched the preparations and evacuations. This chapter also discusses American jokes about other catastrophes including the 2008 earthquake in China and the tsunami in Asia. It also provides some examples of catastrophe jokes.
