This chapter tells the story of the meteoric rise of Izaline Calister, who in 2001 became won her island’s annual Tumba Carnival competition and how she has come to symbolize the unity of diversity on the island. Her music contains all the elements found in Netherlands Antilles music. It describes the Dutch Antillean carnival in some detail.
