This chapter describes events following Webber’s death on 29 June 1932 at the age of fifty-two. Pandemonium almost broke out in Georgetown as Webber was laid to rest in a tomb at Le Repentir Cemetery on June 30. A massive crowd of sympathizers of all shades of color and from every class of society had gathered. Tributes in verse and prose also poured into the newspaper offices in Georgetown from all parts of Guyana, the Caribbean, and London.
