This chapter explains how media fans have begun constructing their own soap-like narratives out of non-fiction material—specifically celebrity gossip—in order to satisfy their desire for serialized melodramatic narrative. The discussions include the family resemblance between soaps and gossip; how celebrity gossip sites instill a sense of neighborhood participation and ensemble interaction; and the sense of collectivity media audiences derive from producing and consuming celebrity gossip.
