This chapter focuses on international viewing contexts for U.S. soaps through Days of Our Lives in Australia, exploring viewers’ reactions to the Nine Network’s decision to skip four years of episodes. The rupture caused a loss of narrative threads, events, and connections. Australian viewers missed out on events and connections in the characters’ stories, and also missed connecting with each other through sequentially unfolding events in Salem. The rupture created a new and expurgated sequence of episodes for the Australian viewing community, and, with that change, new narrative meanings unavailable to viewing communities in other countries.
