This chapter discusses Branch Rickey’s fall from grace as the executive of Major League Baseball. It notes that Branch Rickey brought improvements to the sport through his signing of Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente, as well as his introduction of helmets to the game. Despite his improvements to baseball, these were overshadowed by his exploitative activities throughout his career, his perpetual subordination of the players though his reserve system, and his “desk contract” system of signing recruits with little or no compensation.
