This chapter focuses on government witness Reverend Wendell Phillips Taylor, who possessed a unique aura of sophistication. Aside from his two degrees from Columbia University, and his column, “Perspective In Black,” for the Mississippi United Methodist Advocate, he had been registered to vote in New York City and in two other Mississippi counties before being rejected in Forrest County. Taylor had also led the NAACP chapter in Meridian, Mississippi.
