This chapter describes Theron Lynd’s election as circuit clerk of Forrest County in 1959. In March 1955, Lynd announced his decision to run in the August primary against longtime circuit clerk Luther Cox. Lynd lost that election, but was ready when Cox died three years later, on December 13, 1958. Mrs. Cox was handed her husband’s job, but she was only willing to serve until a special election was conducted on February 10, 1959.
