Another Van Dorn Debacle
This chapter describes the battle of Corinth in 1862, where the Confederate defeat paved the way for the first Union campaign against Vicksburg. North Mississippi from Corinth to Memphis was mostly controlled by Grant’s forces. The Corinth battle, on the heels of Price’s forced retreat from Iuka, also signaled the decline of Confederate fortunes in the West.
