This chapter describes events between 1960 and 1963. These include lawyer Thomas Russell Jones’ initiation of workshops on political organizing in 1960; Jocelyn’s participation in the neighborhood organizing effort; Andy’s appointment as coordinator of Operation Unemployment, an antidiscrimination crusade; and the challenge to the segregationist status quo posed by Negro citizens and sympathetic whites in New York.
