This chapter explains that the relationship between violence and pedagogy in the study of street gang memoirs is important due to the roots of gang violence being in the lack of education among its members. It notes that though the books display aggressive illustrations of gang life, they also contain important lessons in their prevalent themes of conversion. It predicts that the memoirs will remain relevant, as their authentic tales with anti-establishment and deinstitutionalized themes illustrate a slice of life narrative that remains true even decades after their publication.
