This chapter discusses how Bones creator Hart Hanson manipulates conventional storytelling methods to explore a romantic relationship between the two lead characters without disrupting the larger narrative of the program. It argues that Hanson borrows narrative techniques which fan fiction writers have been using for decades—techniques that allow fans to create their own stories without disturbing the narrative flow of the primary text.
