Quel Roi?

(p.51) Chapter 3 Quel Roi?
The Black Carib Wars
Christopher Taylor
University Press of Mississippi

This chapter considers the impact of the treaty between France, Great Britain, and Spain, signed on 10 February 1763, which formally ended seven years of warfare. The treaty effectively redrew the map of the world, and led to the exchange of territories in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The Caribs were not consulted about nor even mentioned in the treaty, under which France ceded St. Vincent to Britain. Unlike the French, who had occupied only the leeward coast, the British had no intention of confining themselves to just a part of the island and quickly set about the business of turning St. Vincent into a profitable colony.
