Ellipses and Enigmas of Unrelated Scenes
This chapter examines the plots of Kubrick’s films. It argues that at a more superficial level, the plots are often full of ellipses and mysteries that remain unsolved and which cannot be explained through a causal logic. At a deeper level, the features of classical Hollywood narrative are implicitly undermined and sacrificed in the name of the auteur’s style.
