Sri Lanka’s comics heyday (1970s-1980s) has all but disappeared as this chapter demonstrates. Blamed are the introduction of island-wide television and Internet services, reduced reading among children, and the high prices of comic papers (chitra katha). Dominating the business for decades were the comics papers of Camillus Publications, which are discussed in this chapter. Comics papers are unique, consisting of 16 pages, each page containing a segment of a serialized story. This chapter differs a bit from others in that it includes publishers’ profiles.

Keywords:   Comic papers, Gajaman, comic strips, political cartoons
