This chapter discusses the proliferation of the automotive industry plants in the South. It explains that the lack of labor unions still loomed large at the start of the rise of the automotive industry, which resulted in unprotected terms and employment. It notes that despite the anti-unionist stand taken by some of the automotive plants, the industry slowly replaced textiles as the premier industry in the South.
