This chapter asserts that the whole enterprise of comic book publishing in Canada during the Second World War offered up a form of comic book that was alternative to the established and entrenched American form. It further argues that the work of Canadian war time comic book creators Bus Griffiths, ‘Ab Normal,’ Avrom Yanovsky, Tedd Steele, and Jack Tremblay, in each of their particular creative impulses, presented styles and perspectives that were alternative to what was generally offered within the context of that broad Canadian war time comic book form.
