Vicky
Vicky
Young, Rich, Popular, Sexy, Gay, and Unhappy
This chapter explores Delaf and Dubuc’s Les Nombrils, focusing specifically on the sexuality of the character Vicky. Initially a relatively light-hearted series, the stories have become darker as the characters age, and Delaf and Dubuc explore their movement towards adulthood, especially Vicki’s developing sexuality. The focus on Vicky’s realization of her sexual orientation pushes against the limits of what Spirou, the magazine in which the stories are serialized and geared towards younger readers, normally permits.
