Danielle Russell

In this chapter, Danielle Russell suggests usingGaiman's more self-reflexive work as a cypher to decoding his literary fictions. She concludes thatGaiman incites his young women readers to be the fearless, confident blueberry girls he sees in his children and friend's children. As such, she uses the poem a cypher into the investigation of girlhood in two of his works for children and young adults, The Wolves in the Walls and The Sleeper and the Spindle. As such, Gaiman crafts an empowering, if not dangerous, vision of girlhood for those who would become future women.
