This chapter recounts the author’s first encounter with the humorist and folklorist Roger Welsch. Crediting Welsch with providing a model for the thoughtful popularization of folklore and folklore studies, the author discusses Welsch’s inclusive approach to scholarship. Roger’s relationship with Pawnee culture receives special attention.
