This chapter describes how an Italian immigrant, Ferdinando Rollini, around 1900,settles in the New York area. He marries a youngItalian lady and gradually becomes a successful part of his social environmentand the economy as an engraver. The couple starts a family and builds a house in Larchmont, NY. At the age of four, their oldest son, Adrian, happens to show his amazing musical talent and is given music lessons. He prefers making music to school training and, at 16, hedecides to leave school and become a professional piano player.
