This chapter focuses on Richard Dyer-Bennet’s work on the translation of the Wilhelm Muller poems that Franz Schubert set to music as the song cycle Die schöne Müllerin. It explains that during this time Dyer-Bennet was absent from the recording and concert, and was presumed to have reached a crossroads in his career. The English translation of the poem “The Lovely Milleress” was published in 1967 by Schirmer.
