This chapter describes several events in 1971, including the arrival of three singer-songwriters to record at American. The fall of 1971 had been one of American’s finest. Two prestigious albums were made, their significance and quality only increasing with time, and one superlative song, arguably one of the greatest standards ever composed, had been completed, though was not yet known to the general public.
