Majestic is a commercial alternate reality game (ARG) that incorporated real conspiracy-based websites in its gaming narrative. Launched on July 31, 2001, it was inspired by the “Majestic 12” documents allegedly written by a highly secretive insider group privy to information regarding the U.S. Government’s relationship with UFOs. Majestic also developed fictional materials that were incorporated by real-world conspiracy theorists into their own narratives without knowing that these materials had been designed for an ARG. That same year, another ARG, The Beast, was also introduced. The release of Majestic and The Beast concerned some participants of the Incunabula Papers legend-tripping odyssey because of their apparent attempt to mimic the very nature of the Incunabula legend complex. Another legend complex, the Montauk Project, began to incorporate ever more references to the Ong’s Hat story. The Incunabula legend complex has merged with other legend complexes, and its influences are evident today, especially in web forums devoted to the unexplained and the supernatural.
