This chapter discusses the story of Kid Ory’s life and music during the period from 1900 to 1904. It explains that although Ory’s parents died during this period, between all his hand-to-mouth activities he still found time for music. Ory purchased his first banjo in 1901 and took various jobs to be able to purchase musical instruments for his group.
