This chapter focuses on the history of Kid Ory’s musical career during the period from 1905 to 1907. It discusses Ory’s trip to New Orleans to purchase a new trombone and highlights his meeting with jazz musician Buddy Bolden, who became a major influence in music. Ory’s group made several trips to New Orleans and developed friendships with members of Bolden’s band. In 1906, Ory’s band landed their first gig in Woodland Plantation.
