This chapter presents one woman’s account of her relocation to Houston after her home was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. She became involved in the Surviving Katrina and Rita in Houston project, which seeks to preserve the stories of survivors in the Library of Congress, the University of Houston Folklore Archive, and other useful repositories. As a member of this project, she was tasked with finding and interviewing twelve people, family, friends, and strangers. When asked to share only one of the twelve interviews that she conducted, she chooses an interview done with her godmother Marie Barney.
