Island at War

Fitzroy André Baptiste

University Press of Mississippi

Author assesses the strategic significance of Puerto Rico to the overall war effort in the Caribbean. Baptiste, as we have mentioned, was the leading scholar on the consequences of the war for the European territories in the Caribbean. He made valuable research on the Vichy regime in Martinique and Guadaloupe. This broad background enables him to approach the military role of Puerto Rico from a regional perspective.
