Pursuing American Racial Justice and a Politically and Theologically Informed Black Church Praxis
Pursuing American Racial Justice and a Politically and Theologically Informed Black Church Praxis
This chapter provides a theological and sociological framework for black church activism in response to historical and cultural legacies of Western colonialism. The chapter delineates strategies for dialogue between the disciplines of theology, postcolonial theory, and race theory in pursuit of a praxis commitment for black church activism requiring a new ecclesial paradigm of theological and political literacy. The chapter also points towards modes of expression in the globalization of racism and western capitalism in a culture of religious privatization, public morality and politics of denial regarding matters of justice in North America.
